Overview

The Council of Europe’s youth works on the basis of a partnership between non-governmental youth organisations and governments, in what is known as the co-management system. This means that representatives from non-governmental youth organisations (NGYOs) and youth networks sit down with government officials to establish the work priorities of the youth sector and make recommendations for future budgets and programmes.

The Council of Europe youth sector is looking for young, committed Europeans to sit on the Advisory Council on Youth.

The Council of Europe’s youth sector works on the basis of a partnership between non-governmental youth organisations and governments in what is known as the co-management system.

The Advisory Council is the non-governmental partner in this system. The European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ) is the governmental partner. Together, these two committees make up the Joint Council on Youth (CMJ) which, working on the basis of consensus and in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding, establishes the youth sector's priorities, objectives and budgets.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Candidates must:

  1. be aged between 18 and 30 and resident in one of the 46 member States of the Council of Europe, the Holy See and Kazakhstan6
  2. be nominated by their organisation/network which must be registered in one of the 46 member States of the Council of Europe, the Holy See or Kazakhstan
  3. show proven ability to share and promote the values and principles of the Council of Europe;
  4. provide a letter of nomination from the head of the organisation, for example the president, describing the specific expertise and experience its representative would bring to the youth sector’s priorities and orientations, as set out in Appendix I;
  5. be motivated, available and committed to attending the statutory meetings and other activities, as well as to contribute in writing to consultations, reports and opinions;
  6. be able to work in English.
