Overview

The main aim of the seminar is to create a space for youth workers and educators to explore ways and approaches to support youth to make smart financial decisions in their personal and professional lives.

Details

Growing into adulthood means also taking responsibility for one's own financial decisions. Checking your payslip that you got paid fairly, saving for your own apartment, or funding and running your own business to success -youth need support with financial literacy. Youth workers and other educators are at the forefront of this work, teaching by and showing their example of how to acquire and handle money and make smart financial decisions that benefit youth themselves, but also the wider society.

According to the OECD/INFE 2020 international survey of adult financial literacy, “about half of the EU adult population does not have a good enough understanding of basic financial concepts. While the overall figures are low, the problem is more acute in some parts of society than others, with the most vulnerable disproportionately affected. Low-income groups, for instance, as well as women, young people and older people, tend to score lower than the rest of the population when it comes to financial knowledge.”

Also, financial literacy is crucial for young entrepreneurs. It is very important to empower them with the knowledge to make informed decisions, manage resources effectively, and strategically plan for success in their plans/proposals.

This seminar will provide participants with the tools and ideas to address these challenges and better support young people’s financial capability and entrepreneurial development.

The Youth@Work Partnership is  organising this seminar to provide professionals who work with youth with ideas and approaches on how to support youth financial literacy and youth entrepreneurial initiatives.
