Overview
One of the heartfelt concerns of FOMOSO is the promotion of people, organisations, initiatives and ideas that emphasize the exchange, integration and cooperation in Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe (MOSO for short) or in Europe and strengthen the European development and the integration of the MOSO region. That is why FOMOSO has set up a small fund since 2022, which is used to support political, social and / or cultural projects from or in MOSO.
Details
Once a year – application period from May 1st to 31st – an open call for proposals for all kinds of political, social and cultural project ideas is opened in this context. A maximum of 1 to 2 projects are selected from this.
Our funding can be used for different phases of a (joint) project – development, testing, establishment, dissemination, etc. – and at different times.
Since our grants are still manageable, there are no strict funding criteria yet. It is important, however, that your idea and the associated concept are qualitatively convincing, understandable and have an impact-oriented structure. In addition, there must be a connection with Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe (MOSO). Ultimately, we attach great importance to interactive, participatory, integrative, creative and/ or cultural contributions. Your idea and concept can be submitted using the online application form.
The project ideas presented, which are received via the online application form, are assessed by an internal decision-making body. This committee will ultimately also make the selection decision for the 1-2 projects. No later than 30 days after the end of the application period, we will let you know whether we are pursuing your project. In the event of positive feedback, we will invite you to a video conference and discuss the further process.

About us
As an independent, non-party and non-profit organisation, the Forum für Mittelost- und Südosteuropa (FOMOSO) promotes the opinion-forming about Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe in Switzerland, the German-speaking world and throughout Europe.
The aim of FOMOSO is to promote interest in social, cultural and political processes in Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe (MOSO) and to make them accessible to the broadest possible audience. In this sense, FOMOSO should also be seen as a project funding, consultation center and think tank with the aim of supporting the European integration of MOSO in order to work on a diverse and strong Europe.
It is important to think outside the box and to find complementary and new approaches in order to integrate the MOSO region more socially, culturally and politically in Europe. Europe cannot be determined solely by the success or failure of the EU. Europe is far more than just a quantity of institutions; it is an integral project with certain important core values.
Consequently, the focus should be put on Europe’s strength and not solely on the weaknesses of the European Union. With this principle, FOMOSO is standing firm behind the idea of a balanced and integrative Europe, in which all people, cultures, regions and countries always meet at eye level!

- Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil society organisations, municipalities, schools, universities, institutions (research institutions and scientific institutions) as well as associations, initiatives and committed groups (a minimum of three people) can participate in the tender.
- Your idea and the associated concept must have a connection with Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe (MOSO).
