Message from the Director

By relying on a large number of Faculty members, our Ph.D. offers the opportunity to carry out research in many areas of Economics and Finance. While the original focus of our Graduate School was on Public Economics, our portfolio of opportunities is now much wider, encompassing many sub-fields of both applied and theoretical Economics, Finance and Banking.

We have a long and consolidated tradition of post-graduate teaching and research, and our courses also rests upon a long-standing teaching cooperation with another prestigious Italian university, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca. By drawing on scholars from both universities, we guarantee that our students are taught by experts in each field, receiving a state-of-the-art education. Furthermore, during their Ph.D., students are pushed to present their work in research seminar at least three times, which helps sharpening the focus of their research and developing new ideas.

The Departments supporting our Graduate Program, with their many research Centers, offer high-quality seminar series: renowned international professors from top institutions and professional economists working in international organizations are invited for talks and seminars on a regular basis, giving students the opportunity to meet outstanding scholars and start creating connections. Our Faculty also have strong links with many Italian and international organizations, and we encourage our students to spend part of their time at top-quality foreign universities and at international institutions in order to further strengthen their background.

We aim to offer a friendly and exciting research environment for ambitious doctoral students, where they can both develop their skills and make long lasting relationships. We particularly welcome students from abroad. Also, Milan is a convenient base for exploiting the many chances offered by Italy's top research centers; living in a city like Milan can also be quite exciting and offers the possibility to enjoy at least some of the country's beauties.

We look forward to meeting you in Milan. If you have any further question, don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Gianluca Femminis,
Director

Prospective Students

Applications for the selection procedure will be considered from candidates of all ages and nationalities who have an Italian degree (laurea specialistica o laurea magistrale) or a post-graduate degree or any foreign academic qualification recognised as equivalent to the Italian degree by the academic authorities in accordance with inter-university agreements of co-operation and mobility.

Candidates from Italy, the European Union or other nations holding a foreign academic qualification which has not been declared equivalent to an Italian degree will have to request that their qualification is recognised as equivalent. This request is done in the application for the selection procedure, and is valid only for purposes of admission to the research doctorate programme. To this end, documents necessary for the teaching staff to reach a decision about the recognition of equivalence should be enclosed with the application.

Applications will be also considered from candidates who, by the date of the application deadline, have not yet obtained their degree or other foreign academic qualification. In this case, admission will be accepted conditionally and the candidate will have to obtain the diploma di laurea or the foreign academic qualification within a date which is set by the Italian Ministry of Education.
