Overview

Apply to be an integral part of our diverse, international teams that make up the volunteer staff of National Model United Nations (NMUN) with participants from colleges and universities from around the world. We need experienced former NMUN delegates and others with Model UN experience to help organize and run our conferences.

Only the best and most passionate MUN experts are selected for their research and organizational skills, expertise in development of preparation materials, and ability to serve as conference staff. Volunteers perform various duties as USGs, Committee Directors, Assistant Directors, or Information Services staff.

NMUN is a nonprofit organization that advances understanding of the United Nations and contemporary international issues. We positively affect the lives of participants and prepare them to be better global citizens through quality educational experiences that emphasize collaboration and cooperative resolution of conflict.

Positions and Responsibilities

Committee Directors (Ds)

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and write a section of the background guide, from June-October. 
  • Stay updated with the work of the committee and topic areas, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the committee's mandate and NMUN Rules of Procedure.
  • Actively participate in pre-conference e-training sessions throughout the year.
  • At the conference, facilitate the committee's work and manage the dais with a welcoming customer service attitude.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to your Assistant Director (AD), including editing their work during the writing process.
  • Adhere to all deadlines and comply with all communication policies. Maintain close, continual contact with your Under-Secretary-General (USG) throughout the year.

Committee Assistant Directors (ADs)

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and write a section of the background guide, from June-October.
  • Actively participate in pre-conference e-training sessions throughout the year.
  • At the conference, under the guidance of the Director, facilitate the work of the committee and manage the dais.
  • Maintain close, continual contact with both their Director and USG throughout the year and abide by NMUN communication and deadline policies.

Who Volunteers

  • Undergraduate students, graduate students, and people with degrees. Applications are welcome from all fields of study.
  • Individuals with NMUN experience (preferred) and applicants with extraordinary substantive or logistical knowledge from other MUNs.
  • Delegates and those who have served as NMUN Chairs at our NY or DCconferences. These positions provide valuable skills and insights that help make good candidates for our volunteer positions.
  • Anyone who is passionate about sharing the NMUN experience with others. There are no particular references required, no special invitations to apply, and no need to have mentioned interest to current volunteer staff members.
