Merit Scholarships

Incoming Students

Northwestern University offers a limited number of highly competitive scholarships for students of exceptional scholastic achievement. These awards may cover up to 40% of NU-Q tuition costs. Students are automatically evaluated during the admissions process. Grantees will be informed of any awards in their acceptance letter from the University. Students who are interested must complete the CSS Profile and provide the requested documentation.  This application must be completed by March 1 in order to be considered.

Need-Based Scholarships

Incoming and Returning Students

Northwestern University in Qatar has limited funds available for supplemental need-based scholarships. This application must be completed by March 1 in order to be considered. Interested students must apply for HBKU Financial Aid (see below) and U.S. Federal Aid (if applicable, see below) to be considered.

Students who are interested must complete the CSS Profile and provide the requested documentation. Additionally, HBKU will require extensive documentation through their application process. Please have the documents available while going through the CSS Profile as we may require additional information.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Either SAT or ACT scores are required. Our institutional codes are:

  • SAT: 5714
  • ACT: 1107

Either TOEFL or IELTS is required. The testing agency should send reports directly to NU-Q. Our TOEFL institutional code is 5945. These scores should not be more than two years old.

Eligibility of TOEFL/IELTS Waiver:

Applicants are eligible for an automatic TOEFL/IELTS waiver if one of the following conditions are applicable:

  1. Based on native language status: This applies for applicants who are native English speakers and have completed their studies in English.
  2. Based on testing performance: This applies for applicants who earned a score of:

    • SAT: 600 or more in BOTH the Critical Reading and Writing components
      OR
    • ACT: 26 or more in BOTH English and Reading components
