About the job 

As a Risk & Internal Control Trainee, you will support the team in assessing, monitoring and continuously improving Opella’s internal control framework. You will contribute to strengthening the efficiency, reliability and compliance of our financial, operational and regulatory processes.

This role offers hands‑on experience in risk management, internal control testing and audit methodologies, providing strong exposure to corporate governance in an international environment.

Main responsibilities 

  • Support the execution of internal control reviews and testing activities to ensure alignment with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in identifying control gaps, weaknesses, and opportunities for process improvements.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data from various departments to support internal control and risk assessments.
  • Participate in walkthroughs and documentation of processes and controls (including narratives, flowcharts, and risk‑control matrices).
  • Prepare working papers, documentation, and reports in line with internal standards.
  • Support follow-up activities to monitor remediation of identified control deficiencies.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members and internal stakeholders regarding findings, observations, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to ad‑hoc projects related to compliance, internal audit or broader risk management initiatives.

Description of Ideal Candidate

About you 

  • Active university student in Business Informatics, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
  • Available at least 30 hours per week with flexible scheduling.
  • Strong analytical mindset, problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficient user of MS Excel (pivot tables, formulas), PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Teams.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles or internal control concepts is a plus.
  • Comfortable interacting with internal stakeholders in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proactive, eager to learn, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Nice to have:

  • Prior internship experience in audit, risk management, compliance or finance.
  • Experience in a Big 4 firm.
  • Familiarity with internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO) or audit methodology.
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools (Power BI, basic SQL).
