This programme is dedicated to the memory of our friend and colleague Leonid Grishchuk, who for many years was an inspirational member of the Gravity Exploration Institute.
Research topics
Possible research topics include:
- modeling binary black hole orbits and their gravitational wave emission
- strong field tests of gravity
- the development of techniques for detecting gravitational waves from supernovae or from the inspiral of neutron-star and black-hole binaries.
How to apply
Applications must include the following:
- an unofficial transcript (a copy of your course marks)
- curriculum vitae
- two reference letters, preferably sent separately by your references.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 1 April each year.
Applications should be emailed to gravity@cardiff.ac.uk.
About us
Our world-leading research in physics and astrophysics helps us to better understand the physical world around us and informs the education of our students to ensure we produce highly employable graduates.
We seek to gain a deeper understanding of the world around us and to provide solutions to major challenges facing science and society. We work within a stimulating and dynamic research environment supported by high quality modern research facilities and internationally renowned research staff.
Our students
We provide a friendly, supportive learning environment for our students. We aim to give them a thorough grounding in the principles of physics and astronomy. We challenge them to solve practical problems and deepen their understanding of science so to convey the excitement and universal importance of the subject to society and the wider community.
Independent recognition
We were ranked 6th in the UK in the latest Research Assessment Exercise with 99% of our research being deemed world leading or internationally excellent (REF 2014). Our students also value our teaching and facilities. 96% of them reported that they were satisfied overall with the quality of our courses in the latest National Student Survey.
