The U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa is pleased to announce the opening of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program competition for the 2025/2026 academic year.

What is the Fulbright Foreign Student Program? 

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is a study program funded through the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York. Initiated by U.S. Senator William J. Fulbright in 1946, the program was created to increase international educational exchange between Americans and citizens of more than 150 countries worldwide.

Program Inclusions: 

The award includes funding for tuition and required fees; a book, equipment, and travel allowance; a monthly stipend for room & board; and a supplemental health and accident coverage plan. All applicants should note that funding is provided for no more than two years of study. Applicants must comply fully with U.S. immigration laws and regulations and must return to the DRC upon completion of their studies.

Eligibility:

Program participants will be selected through a merit-based, open competition in which leadership potential, academic excellence, and ability to adjust to life in the U.S. are all considered.  This highly competitive program takes into account an applicant’s scholastic achievements, the potential benefits of the applicant’s proposed course of study to Congolese society at large, the candidate’s demonstrated capacity and willingness to give back to his or her community, and willingness to contribute to a better understanding between the people of the United States and the DRC.

Applicants must:

  • Be a Congolese citizen,

  • Hold a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Possess a strong academic background,

  • Be proficient in English and/or be able to attend a Long-Term English (LTE) program prior to the start of the study program.

  • Be available for a personal interview if chosen to be a finalist.
