Introducing Netherlands

The Netherlands is a country in western Europe that is sometimes called Holland. It derived its name ‘Netherlands’ from what actually means ‘lower countries’ based on its literally low lands and flat geography. The country takes pride in their hard work and skills in engineering that enabled them to  extend their land by making dikes and reclaiming part of the ocean to move their shoreline further.

The country comprises two major cultural regions namely the ‘Randstad,’ which pertains to the ‘City on the edge’ and ‘non-Randstad’ which stretches throughout areas that are not belonging to the region of Randstad. The region on the edge of the city is more urbanized and acts as the basin for most of the country’s political and economic life. This is mainly the reason why the country is sometimes referred to as Holland, a place where people may also be seen as more liberal in their culture. The non-Randstad possess more conservative attitudes and are more rural compared to the other.

Many would say that living in the Netherlands may cost an expat more than usual, but don’t worry. If you are to land a career in this country, you are in for a treat of opportunities from several international and multinational corporations. A career as rewarding as what the country  can offer can actually compensate for the cost of living in the Netherlands.
