Steel is such a widely used material that it is difficult to find a place that is not used in our daily life. This is because it exists abundantly on Earth and has excellent properties, and its recycling rate is higher than any other material. Although new materials are being actively developed recently, I think that it is almost impossible to easily replace steel materials. Therefore, steel will continue to remain immobile as a key material in all industries. In order for steel to maintain its current position, it must be able to exhibit economical and excellent performance that meets the needs of more environmentally friendly production and more sophisticated related industries. To achieve this, intensive basic research as well as efficient commercialization research must be supported.
Against this background, after 10 years of preparation, The Graduate Institute of Ferrous & Eco Materials Technology, which stands for a research-oriented graduate school, was opened in 2005. For the past 15 years, the Graduate School of Steel and Energy Materials has made its best efforts towards the two main objectives of nurturing excellent core human resources who will lead the steel industry in the future, and developing new steel processes and new material technologies that can fundamentally differentiate competitiveness from a long-term perspective. have been racing. As a result, about 150 Ph.D. and more than 200 master's students have been produced, and about 1300 excellent theses have been published. . In the future, we plan to actively discover and promote projects that reflect the trends in the steel industry and the needs of our customers in order to create such outstanding results.
The Graduate Institute of Ferrous & Eco Materials Technology has the strength to maintain close relationships with major steel companies, including POSCO, which provides full financial support. As a result, we maintain close relationships with steel researchers, producers and consumers around the world through research projects, joint workshops, and exchanges of scientists. Based on this, we aim to become a global leader in steel technology development that can comprehensively understand the overall steel industry and suggest a preemptive response to crises while maintaining close relationships with the industry as well as academic excellence.
