Overview

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge environment, bridging inorganic chemistry and materials science to accelerate the decarbonization of industry through breakthrough CO₂-to-methanol technology.

Details

Company

Aerleum is a French deep-tech startup pioneering Reactive Direct Air Capture (Reactive DAC) — a breakthrough technology that integrates carbon capture and conversion into a single reactor. Our mission is to produce cost-competitive, scalable, and sustainable fuels that directly replace fossil-based alternatives in hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as maritime shipping, aviation, and chemicals.

Founded in 2023, Aerleum is backed by top-tier investors such as 360 CP, HTGF, Norrsken, Bpifrance, and Marbleand has won several prestigious awards.

So, where are we going now? Scale our technology from lab to commercial deployment and make synthetic fuels a viable alternative at industrial scale.

Job Summary

As a Material Scientist Intern, you will contribute to the development of Aerleum’s next-generation materials for CO₂ capture and conversion. Working closely with the R&D team, you will take part in the synthesis, testing, and optimization of innovative dual functional materials, with a strong focus on inorganic chemistry.

Main Responsibilities

Synthesis

  • Prepare dual functional materials for CO₂ capture and conversion.
  • Follow synthesis protocols to ensure reproducibility, consistency, and of materials.

Performance Testing

  • Operate the discovery platform to conduct CO₂ adsorption and catalytic conversion tests on synthesized samples.
  • Support the evaluation of material performance and contribute to iterative optimization cycles.

Data Management & Analysis

  • Maintain a structured database documenting synthesis conditions, operating conditions, and performance metrics.
  • Assist in analyzing experimental data to identify key trends and guide material improvement efforts.
