CAIMUN is held each year at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel: a luxurious three-tower complex encompassing an entire city block in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. The 5-star property is comprised of lavish guestrooms and 42,910 square feet of meeting space tailored to fit our 20 committees. Located at 1000 Burrard St., the Sheraton is situated in Vancouver’s historic financial district. The hotel is in close proximity to a plethora of restaurants, eateries, transit hubs, and other unique activities characteristic to Vancouver’s downtown core.

Details
Model United Nations is an educational simulation of the UN’s assemblies and other governmental organizations such as legislative bodies. At CAIMUN, these are all “committees.”
Each year in Downtown Vancouver at the Sheraton Wall Centre hotel, CAIMUN convenes over 1000 participants from around the globe and over 100 schools to simulate over 20 committees that address the world’s political issues. The conference runs for three days over a weekend in the Spring. Each committee is allocated its own special conference room at the hotel, and all participants are housed in hotel rooms at the Sheraton Wall Centre directly through CAIMUN for the weekend.
CAIMUN’s committees are not limited to the UN’s various bodies such as the UN Security Council, but also include various other governmental bodies such as the British Parliament, the United States Senate, the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, and many more from around the world. Each committee addresses its own unique topics, tailored to its mandate and jurisdiction. Students at CAIMUN (delegates) represent a country or position in a committee, and delegates debate their committee’s topics over the weekend to address and solve to the issue. Each annual session of CAIMUN features a unique set of committees and topics.
CAIMUN’s Unique Features
- Hybrid Committees: Unique to CAIMUN’s committee program, Hybrid Committees follow standard Rules of Procedure (RoP) for the first topic and Crisis RoP for the second topic. Such a format allows for delegates to retain the quintessential MUN experience and also have a taste of the exciting, fast-paced nature of a crisis committee.
- Divided Debates: In addition to the regular rules of Model UN, CAIMUN continues to uphold its form of caucus: Divided Debate, a concept that revolutionizes the efficiency of debate in MUN. Divided Debates seek to eliminate the circuitous and serpentine jitters that can emerge in standard caucuses. With two clear sides of alternating speakers, delegates are given the opportunity to directly confront the ideas against their country’s policies, out their allies and contestants, and apply different speech features unavailable in moderated caucuses.
- International Press Corps: Often, the relationship between delegates and IPC is one way: the IPC writes articles based on delegates’ discussion. CAIMUN fosters a more congruent, realistic, and interactive approach to the IPC: not only will delegates’ actions affect IPC articles, but IPC articles will also affect committee outcomes, and as a result, delegates’ actions. Just like in real life, the media shall influence politics.

Description of Ideal Candidate
Anyone can attend CAIMUN as a delegate so long as they are enrolled in a secondary school and are of high school-age. Typically, this is between grades 7-12 and ages 12-19. There are no other requirements or conditions to attend the conference.
International and out-of-province delegates are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
No MUN experience is required to attend CAIMUN, and delegates of all skill levels are welcome to attend. CAIMUN’s committee program offers a variety of committees suitable for delegates of all experience levels from beginner to advanced delegates. We thus welcome all to attend the conference, whether you will be just beginning your MUN journey or power-delegating in crisis committees.
