Overview

Future for Africa (F4A) is a Ghanaian voluntary, non-profit and Non-Governmental Organization working at local levels to create a future of hope for children in economically poor areas of northern Ghana.

Details

Established in February 2014 but legally registered in 2016, F4AO operations covers the entire three regions of Northern Ghana namely; Northern, Upper East and Upper West with the headquarters in Bolgatanga, the regional capital of Upper East.

F4AO approach is working through strong partnerships with civil societies, institutions and using volunteers, to reach out to the deprived and vulnerable children and families in its operational areas. (The organization also seeks to promote intercultural awareness, tolerance and communication of our Youth.)

We seek to engage and empower children especially, the vulnerable in society and to provide meaningful interventions in areas of education, health, Water and sanitation, and Livelihoods. This will be done through partnership and with volunteers. F4AO will endeavor to influence policies and actions at all levels of society towards inspiring hope in the younger generations of society and also to promote intercultural awareness, tolerance among the youth.

Welcome to our programs

Future4Africa programs are year round, and it relies on both local and international volunteers to achieve its goals. Please see below for a list of projects that might interest you. Opportunities include placements in our Education, child care and Healthcare programs. You are also welcome to suggest relevant projects that you wish to carry out.

Impact of Future for Africa's Programs

Besides the direct benefits for participants, exchange programs have a positive and lasting impact on the larger community

  • Personal growth
  • Networking and experience
  • Intercultural sensitivity
  • Career &academic choices
  • Language skills (for those who do not have English as their first language )
  • Entertainment
  • Education

Teaching: volunteers will have the opportunity to teach in partner schools on subjects such as mathematics, English, physical education, religious and moral education, ICT and Science. Under the supervision of locally trained teachers.
Volunteers need not be qualified teachers to do so basic knowledge is sufficient for training the community whilst higher heights will be achieved at due cause.

BOOKS FOR CHANGE

Education is one area we commit much attention and resources into; this is to ensure that every Ghanaian or African child living anywhere has access to basic teaching and learning materials to enhance studies. The Books for Change (BFC) project seeks to achieve a change in the reading habits of children and a successful completion of basic education for advantaged children in Northern Ghana. With support from groups like I BELIEVE IN READING and individuals we normally donate reading materials to  Yikene primary and Sumbrungu Primary and Junior high school all in the Upper East region. Reading clubs have been formed to test for the results of the project in these schools which allows voluntary participation of children who come together to read books of their choices during their leisure time(during and after school sessions),teachers have been assigned to supervise these period and assist them in reading. The project still seeks to reach out to a larger target population as time goes on. Hence we are still advocating to so.

Child Care: another important aspect of volunteering with Future for Africa is working with children that are deprived as a result of bad parenting or not having parents at all, volunteers will be able to have direct contact and help in catering for their needs to enable them feel at home and loved until they are integrated into the society.

Sports: our sport projects include football (soccer) which is the most common game in our world, basketball and handball volunteers with such special skill will help in the personal development of young sports men and women in the society.

Health care: We partner with Regional Directorate of Ghana health service in Bolgatanga and other health centers in Ghana to assist in giving medical care to the deprived and sick persons who need medical attention, something that is ideal for volunteers or interns who work as doctors, nurses, students in the medical field and other paramedical personnel . Volunteers can help out at local clinics and hospitals.

Volunteer

Volunteering during your gap year or as a break during or after university allows you to explore the world as more than just a tourist. Future4africa can make all the arrangements for you and support you every step of the way. If you would like to leave your mark on a community abroad, while experiencing the adventure of a lifetime, a future4africas placement could be for you!

  • Help others in meaningful ways: You will have the chance to help people and communities who really need it and become an active member of the local community.
  • Experience life: Taking time out to volunteer overseas provides a rare opportunity to do something completely different. It is a springboard for discovering yourself and the world and it might even help you plan for your future.
  • Have an adventure: Going on a future4africas placement is a real challenge. You will live and work in a different culture, and experience life from another perspective.
  • Make new friends: Volunteering with future4africas means you’re guaranteed to meet like-minded people.
  • Practice a new language: The best way to improve your foreign language skills is to spend time in the country itself, away from your home influences. Volunteering abroad is an ideal way to improve any language skills you may have, or even learn new ones!
  • Experience another culture: When simply traveling between countries you rarely have time to properly learn about different ways of life. By spending several months living and working overseas, you can really experience and immerse yourself in the culture of your chosen country.
