Details

What is For Women In Science (FWIS)?

For Women in Science is an award given to talented young women researchers who dedicate their careers to developing scientific innovations and contributing to sustainable development and the advancement of society. Since 2004 this program has been implemented in Indonesia in collaboration with the support of the Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Education and Culture with the aim of recognizing, encouraging and support women in science.

Why FWIS?

Although many female scientists have led ground-breaking research in the field of science, science is still dominated by men. Women make up only 29% of researchers worldwide, and their work rarely gets the recognition it deserves. Only 3% of novels for science were ever awarded to women.

Why should I register for FWIS?

Not only receiving research funding of Rp. 100 million, FWIS awardees from year to year get a wide and high-quality network, not only with researchers who have received FWIS awards in previous years, but also with leading researchers who are FWIS judges. In addition, awardees can also be promoted to the annual FWIS International competition for research funds of €40,000 each for 15 selected people.

Each year the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science National and Regional programs represent:

  • Over 9,500 applications,
  • 275 talented young women scientists granted Fellowships to pursue promising research projects,
  • 48 programs covering 115 countries,
  • 44 prestigious partners among the highest scientific authorities in their countries.
  • Over 350 international scientists participated in selecting the National and Regional fellows.
