Overview
In order to conserve the natural environment and ecosystems, comprehensive approach is required from the level of experts, researchers, law makers, policy makers, and most notably the ordinal citizens who have accurate scientific knowledge and strong will. However, it is difficult to say that such human resources have been sufficiently developed.
Details
Under the Scholarship Scheme, the Nagao Natural Environmental Foundation (NEF) supports those students who are willing to study the subjects related to the natural environment but not have enough financial resources for university level studies and offers opportunities for local students to gain filed experience through participating in field activities related to the nature conservation.
This support is given aiming at developing human resources in developing countries of Southeast Asia who understand natural science and intend to work in the field of the nature conservation in the future.
The Scholarship Scheme is carried out possible by the generous support of the counterpart institutions and organisations of the target countries.
Scholarship Programmes
University for young generations is one of the places where to acquire knowledge and experience, but its education is not available for everyone. For example, there are students who have to give up or drop out from education for economic reasons although they wish to continue their study, particularly in developing countries.
Through the Programmes, the NEF aims to develop human resources in developing countries of Southeast Asia who understand natural science and intend to work in the field of the nature conservation in the future.
About NEF
Founded in 1989, the Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting nature conservation in developing countries. Since its establishment, the Research Grant Scheme has supported researchers from research institutions mainly in the Asia-Pacific region. A total of 424 research projects in 25 countries have been awarded grants during this period (as of 30 April 2016). Meanwhile, the Scholarship Scheme has given support to a total of 5,086 students in nine countries in Asia (as of 30 April 2016).
In September 2007, the NEF reviewed its schemes in order to contribute to nature conservation more effectively. In addition to the original Research Grant and Scholarship Schemes, we extended our support to include the intensive production of scientific work and filed activities under a new scheme called the 'Comprehensive Programme for Conservation Research and Activities.'
