Responsibilities

The Graphics and Multimedia team in Moody's Ratings Research department is seeking an intern for a 10-week program that provides an outstanding opportunity to apply and develop skills that are valuable to any future career in software development or data visualization.

  • Develop components and tools for our visualization and user interface libraries
  • Build custom interactive data visualizations for ongoing data story publications
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, and journalists to identify and implement new features
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to team discussions, and write documentation

About the Team/Program

Moody’s Ratings Research Graphics is a global, collaborative team of professionals enthusiastic about enhancing the quality of our research through compelling digital graphics. They are responsible for creating interactive data stories that communicate Moody's research to a broader audience, and infographics that illustrate the scale of the economic forces that we cover. In addition, Research Graphics supports building the graphics tools used by researchers to produce their own graphics.

The Graphics Engineer Intern will collaborate with other members of the Research Graphics team as well as financial writers and analysts from across the rating agency to produce interactive graphics on key topics affecting financial markets such as sustainable finance, commercial real estate, private credit, and more.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong front-end development skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with one or more JavaScript frameworks, such as React, Angular, Svelte, Vue)
  • Can demonstrate abilities in a public-facing data visualization portfolio and GitHub repositories
  • Experience with Svelte, D3, and working with data in CSV and JSON formats
  • Experience collaborating with team members through Git workflows
  • Should be comfortable with working on the command line and with some backend code (e.g. Node.js)
  • Familiarity with User Experience design principles and web accessibility standards
  • Excited to explore and learn new technologies and innovative practices in data visualization development
  • Enthusiastic about initiating technical discussions and breaking down complex concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools can be used to improve
    processes and drive efficiency. Interest in exploring AI systems and a willingness to develop awareness of responsible AI practices,
    including risk management and ethical use

Education

  • Students matriculating through college, studying towards a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification, or a master’s degree, in computer science or related technical discipline
  • Graduation date of December 2026 – June 2027
  • Ability to work during program dates: June 1st - August 7th 2026

Cost/funding for participants
