Overview

The PhD program in Physics in Trieste gives students the opportunity to conduct state-of-the-art research across various fields of physics. The University’s close collaborations with many research institutions, giving Trieste its reputation as “the city of Science”, offer to students the chance to work with experts engaged in many fields to conduct cutting-edge research theses. A wide range of advanced courses allows doctoral students to complete a training consistent with the topics of their doctoral thesis.

Details

This three-year program provides curricular courses and specific training activities. The students will work on leading-edge projects in astrophysics, condensed matter physics, medical physics and biophysics, nuclear and particle/astroparticle physics, theoretical physics.

The duration of the PhD programme is three years, and it is taught in English. Research is carried out in cutting-edge facilities, on the main university campus, at the local Area Science Park and at national and international laboratories, in collaboration with Italian and international research institutions.

The admission is evaluated through a competitive selection based on qualifications and interview. A video conference (Skype) interview can be arranged on request.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Eligible candidates must hold an academic qualification, which can be considered to be equivalent - in terms of duration, level and disciplinary field -  to the Italian degree which allows to undertake Ph.D. studies in Italy. The candidate must hold the degree by September 30, 2025 (or by October 31, 2025 in case of an Italian degree)
