Overview

The United Nations internship programme is intended to expose students or recent graduates to the United Nations in order to enhance their educational experience and to help them to gain experience in the work of the Organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Draft in English and Arabic media advisories, press releases, press reviews, talking points, statements, news stories, etc.;
  2. Contribute to the update of UNIC-Beirut's website and other social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) with relevant UN news and events;
  3. Provide media support to events/campaigns organized by UNIC Beirut;
  4. Assist in organizing press conferences, meetings, briefings and other PR events by UNIC- Beirut;
  5. Assist in taking photos and videos for media coverage and archiving;
  6. Assist in other ad-hoc activities as instructed.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  2. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this internship, fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.

Cost/funding for participants

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
