Act Like A Local in Australia

‘No worries,’ was told to be the national mantra in Australia, everyone is just so calm in here! So why not grab a cup of coffee on your way to wherever or just sit down and relax? By the way, the locals really like their coffee strong, and so should you. And don’t be surprised when no local is on time for breakfast. If you want to act like an Aussie, then you should know that most breakfast starts at 11:00 am and some still get to eat eggs at 2:00 pm. We kid you not, the locals eat brunch the whole day.

Aussies aren’t just relaxed, they are also a country of humor. They love making fun of everything, of everyone, and even of themselves. If you want to sound like a local, take no offense to some jokes and don’t think twice about making yourself a part of a funny phrase. Just bear in mind, no hard topics and just keep a positive vibe. Lastly, should there be a very long silence, try to fill in gaps in conversations. Australians get uncomfortable with a long silence and would usually keep the conversation going; try complaining about the weather! Exclaiming short complaints about the weather is part of the everyday Aussie discussion. Well, here’s to give you a bit of summary on what to do and not to do in Australia:

DO's DON'Ts
Take initiative to introduce yourself No hugging on the first meeting
Open up light topics Don’t ask too many personal questions
Try eating brunch any time of the day Don’t mimic the local accent
Try some strong coffee with the locals Don’t get easily offended by jokes
Keep a positive vibe Don’t use the word G’day!
Try the ‘weather complaints’ filler Don't allow long silences
