Stay Safe in Australia

Australia is generally a safe country with lots and lots of places and adventures you may enjoy. However there are those common dangers and uneventful circumstances in the country you may also need to watch out for. Here are a few pieces of advice you may want to take note:

  • The sun in Australia can be incredibly strong, and you would understand why they always complain about the weather. Protect your skin by always putting on sunscreen when you are going out on a sunny day. A sunscreen with SPF 50+ is recommended to protect you from the damage-causing heat of the sun.
  • Since it can be really warm in the country, keep a bottle of water handy and stay hydrated!
  • People see Australia as a place for a lot of adventure, that can imply a series of hiking, fishing, swimming etc. When swimming, always prefer popular or known beaches, although shark attacks here are rare, you may want to make sure that the waters are safe. Some bodies of water in the country may also be a habitat for wild animals, make sure you don’t risk fishing or going to places with warning signs of crocodiles. When hiking, please do consider hiring a guide. Bring some insect repellant, plenty of water, and a map to familiarize yourself with the hiking site.
  • Your important belongings and money should be well kept. Although crime rates are generally low, you may be able to stay away from any trouble by keeping valuables to yourself. Also, some remote regions may not have ATMs, so always have enough cash with you; not too much but not too little.
  • When out for an unfamiliar trip without any guide or a local, always let somebody know where you are headed out. For example, if you are out sailing or exploring nature in some nearby bush areas, inform a friend that you’ll be going there. Some remote areas may not have network coverage, so better let someone know you’re there.
