Interview Tips in Norway

If you are preparing for an interview, there’s a high change that you are a step away from being employed. Most companies interview candidates who passed their shortlisting, and whose CVs appeal to them. Make sure you are consistent with the document you presented and you are well informed about the role you are applying for in the company. Check the other tips below:

Tip 1: It is highly recommended that you review the previous sections of this guide that concerns Norwegian culture as part of your preparation. Remember the best practices in a local setting and avoid doing things that may leave a bad impression. You may start by dressing up in a conservative manner. Men should be in button-up long sleeves with suits on, together with corporate slacks and closed shoes. Females may also wear button-up long sleeves over formal pants and closed shoes. Avoid wearing heavy make-up and very strong perfume.

Tip 2: It was mentioned that punctuality is important to the locals in Norway. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled interview and bring with you all the documents that may be needed. Bring copies of your CV, business card, and a notebook where you can write your notes. Jot down relevant and smart questions that may encourage an exchange in conversation with your interviewer.

Tip 3: Research the company and be aware of the job description of the position you are applying for. Chances are they will ask how your skills would match the listed responsibilities. Be straightforward in answering your interviewer and highlight the skills you will employ in the said role, while also keeping a modest tone.

Tip 4: Fix a handshake and remember to engage in eye contact. Locals handshake before and after meeting a counterpart, so extend a hand during these times. While being nervous is very normal, be confident in answering and exercise enthusiasm in all your responses.

If you are the candidate that best fits the role they called you for, you will surely hear from your employer within two weeks time. You may also follow up on them should they take more than 2 weeks to contact you.
