One representative from the organization(s) implementing the awarded project(s) will be invited to attend the ESD Okayama Award 2025 Ceremony in Okayama, Japan and will be asked to make a presentation about the project. The Award Ceremony, scheduled for 21 October 2025 (Tuesday), will be held in conjunction with the 14th Global RCE Conference in Okayama City (hosted by the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, Okayama City, and the Okayama ESD Promotion Commission).

The ESD Okayama Award has been held since 2015 under the joint sponsorship of Okayama City and the ESD Okayama Award Steering Board, with the aim of honoring excellent examples of ESD around the world, thereby supporting the activities of the award-winning project organizations and contributing to the spread of ESD activities.

Eligibility
ESD projects that have been implemented for more than 2 years by organizations anywhere in the world.
Selection Criteria
The Global Prize will be given to outstanding projects that can serve as global models contributing to the promotion ESD in local communities. Submitted projects will be reviewed by ESD experts based on the following criteria.
- Vision - Project outlines local issues, and objectives are clearly stated.
- Collaboration - Project has a (clear) implementation structure with various collaborating stakeholders (individuals and organizations).
- Integration - Project integrates environmental, social, and economic dimensions of ESD.
- Empowerment - Project takes educational approaches such as interactive methods for problem-solving and promoting actions to shape a sustainable future. Project also leads to behavior change of individuals, including the transformation of values, attitudes and actions, and to the empowerment of local communities.
- Innovation The project demonstrates an innovative approach to ESD.
- Future Strategy - Project is expected to be developed and expanded in the future and it will bring positive influences to other communities as well.
Selection Process
- Submitted projects will go through the First Round of Selection by the Secretariat.
- Projects selected by the Secretariat will go through an online voting and ‘Movie or Slide Show’ of the project will be reviewed.
- Juries will review nominated projects considering the online voting’s result, and award-winning projects will be decided.
