Overview
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is the driving force among regulatory authorities in implementing the EU's groundbreaking chemicals legislation for the benefit of human health and the environment as well as for innovation and competitiveness. The Biocidal Products Unit, Risk Management Directorate, manages ECHA’s activities related to the evaluation of active substances, applications for Union Authorisation, as well as the scientific assessments to be performed by the Agency itself under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) (applications for technical equivalence, active substance supplier and classification of changes).
Details
The Biocidal Products Unit, in cooperation with Biocidal Active Substances unit D1, ensure that the Agency is well prepared to carry out these activities by utilising the best possible scientific, technical and regulatory capacity and working in an efficient and transparent way. The Unit also provides scientific and technical input to helpdesk activities, and to the development of guidance documents and scientific IT tools, within the scope of their competence.
Assignment
The selected person will work in the Biocidal Product unit D2 of the Agency and would support the human health team on certain scientific projects and areas, specifically:
- Scientific and/or administrative support to the work of the Working Groups (WGs) of the Biocidal Products Committee (BPC);
- Administrative support to the activities related to product authorisation processes, for example assistance in guidance development and meeting organisation;
- Support to specific IT projects for further improvement of the integration between the different biocides IT tools;
- Any other ad hoc task under the remit of the teams.

Description of Ideal Candidate
- Completed university studies at least to bachelor degree level in fields related to business administration, social sciences, economics, communications, information and communications technology (ICT), engineering, ecotoxicology, environmental sciences, chemistry, biology, biochemistry or toxicology;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Aptitude for teamwork and sharing information;
- Proactive attitude;
- Flexibility/adaptability;
- An eye for details;
- Aptitude to work towards deadlines;
- Excellent English skills both written and spoken (as this is the working language of the Agency);
- Experience in an international/multicultural environment is a plus.

Cost/funding for participants
- The graduate trainee scheme offers a grant.
- Trainees who continue to receive remuneration from their employer, or any other grant or allowance will only be entitled to a grant from ECHA if the amount they receive is less than the one indicated above. In this case, trainees will receive an amount equal to the difference between their income and the level of ECHA's grant.
- Trainees in employment must provide a declaration of remuneration, expenses and allowances signed by their employer.
