At HS2 we offer a two-year rotational graduate programme, providing you with the opportunity to stretch and challenge yourself on the largest infrastructure project in Europe. The HS2 Project Profession Graduate programme has been specifically tailored to build capability and competence in varying aspects of project and programme management. You will gain exposure to a variety of disciplines, whilst in parallel having the opportunity to gain technical qualifications. This will enable you to begin your journey towards becoming a Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) of the Association for Project Management where applicable. This programme is designed around enabling you to get as much experience as possible across the project within a particular business area. We do this through ‘on-the-job’ training, technical qualifications, supported by technical expertise and project management development opportunities. After completion of the 2-year graduate programme graduates will be transferred into a role within the same discipline, but not necessarily the same business area.
The 6-month rotations across the business will incorporate the following parts of the organisation including: Programme Management Office, Project Delivery, Project Controls, and a self-selected placement.
- Programme Management Office placement: The PMO placement in this area will develop your understanding of how consistent standards are developed and deployed to ensure the project is on target to deliver its benefits and that HS2’s executive, SLT and external sponsors are provided with accurate, timely and consistent performance updates.
- Project Controls placement: The project controls placement in this area will enable you to enact the project management standards set out by the PMO and develop an understanding of the interfaces between the controls and delivery teams and the controls and the PMO teams.
- Delivery placement: The delivery placement will build your understanding of how projects and programmes deliver in order to achieve the outcomes and benefits they have agreed to within the constraints of time, cost, and quality – the core of what project delivery is all about.
- Self-selected placement: The self-selected programme will enable you to choose a placement which focuses on a skill you would like to develop further, or an area you would like to know more about. During this placement you should consider where you feel you have skills / knowledge gaps and find a placement to bridge this gap.
