The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree.

Organizational Setting 

The Division of Information Technology provides support to the IAEA in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), including information systems for technical programmes and management. It is responsible for planning, developing and implementing an ICT strategy, for setting and enforcing common ICT standards throughout the Secretariat and for managing central ICT services. The IAEA's ICT infrastructure comprises hardware and software platforms, and cloud and externally-hosted services. The Division has implemented an IT service management model based on ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and Prince2 (Projects in a Controlled Environment) best practices.

Main Purpose

Under the supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and working closely with Information Security Officers, Security Operations staff, and Client Relations staff, the Intern will gain hands-on experience in supporting various information security education and awareness activities. This internship offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of information security awareness educational curriculum and materials, deliver security awareness training sessions, analysis of information security principles for relevant service and product delivery

Functions / Key Results Expected 

  • Assist in the creation of content and curriculum on information security and related topics. 
  • Assist with the creative design and content development for the internal website for Information Security Awareness. 
  • Assist with the preparation and potential delivery of training courses and supporting materials in all formats/mediums (e.g., online, in-person, etc.). 
  • Assist with basic data analysis related to security awareness campaigns (e.g., attendance, phish testing results, etc.). 
  • Any other tasks as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in education, communication, international relations, information technology, information security, or related field. (Advanced University Degree may be considered an advantage)
  • Basic understanding of security awareness curriculum and educational materials development. 
  • Good understanding of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and other creative/innovation applications/tools. 
  • Good business acumen.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work productively and maintain effective relationships in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

Applicant Eligibility 

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish  Russian) an asset.
  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
