Imagine yourself in Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington, a vibrant capital city, famous for its natural beauty, dynamic café scene, and exciting film and creative spaces. NMUN • New Zealand will be a unique educational opportunity for college and university students from all over the world to discover how modern Aotearoa/New Zealand balances its commitment to the environment, it’s celebrated status as the first country to give women the right to vote, and its ongoing partnership and engagement with Māori as tangata whenua (the people of the land). Our simulation of the United Nations will address pressing global issues. Come learn about the challenges facing humanity and develop the skills you need to make a difference.

Details

Outside of committee sessions, we plan to conduct study tours to Zealandia Ecosanctuary, Te Papa Tongarewa (Museum of New Zealand), Parliament Building, National Library, and Wētā Workshop. Come experience the scenic environment seen in The Lord of the Rings films, lively neighborhoods, and a stunning harbor where little penguins nest, all within a city that is compact, walkable, and full of energy!

NMUN is excited to partner with UN Youth New Zealand to provide this amazing educational experience.

At the conference:

  • Engage in simulated UN committees and draft resolutions on global problems
  • Network with peers from around the world, learn about different cultures and perspectives, and become the next generation of international leaders
  • Debate pressing issues and hone your negotiation and public speaking skills
  • Explore the vibrant culture of New Zealand with its world-class museums, shows, architecture, restaurants, and stores or simply wander the bustling streets

What are you waiting for? Register today and start making a difference!

About NMUN

National Model United Nations (NMUN), the world’s oldest and largest intercollegiate MUN conference.

Our Mission

National Model United Nations (NMUN) is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that advances understanding of the United Nations and contemporary international issues. We positively affect the lives of participants and prepare them to be better global citizens through quality educational experiences that emphasize collaboration and cooperative resolution of conflict. We envision a world comprised of civically engaged people who strive for peaceful, multilateral conflict resolution and equitable, sustainable human development.

Guiding Principle

Cooperative, hands-on, experiential learning allows students to confront a range of topics with the perspective of their assigned country or organization. Through these experiences - during preparation in committee sessions and hallway caucuses - students develop an appreciation of differing viewpoints, experience the challenges of negotiation, see the rewards of cooperation, broaden their world view, and discover the human side of international relations and diplomacy.

Experiential Learning Programs

Our programs provide a diverse group of informed students and their faculty advisors a forum for addressing global concerns in a real world context. Conferences address important issues including regional conflicts, women and children, peacekeeping, human rights, economic and social development, and the environment. Our goal is to provide a better understanding of the inner workings of the UN as students build skills in diplomacy and compromise.
