Internship Visa in Germany
Germany is a popular destination for trainings and internships. If you wish to take your internship in Germany and you are an EU or EEA Citizen, you do not need to secure a visa. This goes the same with the citizens of Canada, Japan, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Korea; they will still be required to secure a residence permit upon arrival to Germany. However, if you are a third-country national and you are staying for less than 90 days in the country you will need to apply for a Type-C Visa (Schengen Visa), but should it be beyond 3 months then you have to secure a Type -D Visa known as the German National Visa. The following documents may be required of you when getting this type of visa:
- Fully accomplished and signed German Type-D Visa Application Form
- (2) Two pieces of identical photographs that are no older than three months and taken with consideration to the ICAO Standards
- Passport that contains at least two blank pages and is not more than 10 years old. Validity of the passport should be 6 months after the date of exit from Germany or Schengen territory
- Bring copies of your previous visa are available
- Bring all previous passports
- Marriage Certificate if applicable
- ZAV consent letter from the Bundesagentur für Arbeit. This is a kind of work permit that allows you to work in Germany and should be provided by the company offering the internship.
- No-Objection / Deputation Letter that confirms your connection to a university or organization
- Letter of Approval from the company providing your internship, stating the conditions of your stay and the payment
- Evidence of qualification such as degree certificates, mark sheets, or any diploma
- Health Insurance confirmation from your provider assuring your coverage of at least EUR30,000 throughout the Schengen territory
- Proof of financial means such as bank statements or payment statement
- Proof of contract and income
- Proof of ownership and income for self-employed individuals
- Proof of ticket reservation
- Proof of accommodation
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Proof of payment for the visa application fee
To Apply:
- Collate all your documents and check for other relevant documents that will help prove your ability to sustain your visit to the country.

- Pay an application fee of EUR75.
- Prepare for the interview on your scheduled date.
