Internship Visa in Germany

Germany is a popular destination for trainings and internships. If you wish to take your internship in Germany and you are an EU or EEA Citizen, you do not need to secure a visa. This goes the same with the citizens of Canada, Japan, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Korea; they will still be required to secure a residence permit upon arrival to Germany. However, if you are a third-country national and you are staying for less than 90 days in the country you will need to apply for a Type-C Visa (Schengen Visa), but should it be beyond 3 months then you have to secure a Type -D Visa known as the German National Visa. The following documents may be required of you when getting this type of visa:

  • Fully accomplished and signed German Type-D Visa Application Form
  • (2) Two pieces of identical photographs that are no older than three months and taken with consideration to the ICAO Standards
  • Passport that contains at least two blank pages and is not more than 10 years old. Validity of the passport should be 6 months after the date of exit from Germany or Schengen territory
  • Bring copies of your previous visa are available
  • Bring all previous passports
  • Marriage Certificate if applicable
  • ZAV consent letter from the Bundesagentur für Arbeit. This is a kind of work permit that allows you to work in Germany and should be provided by the company offering the internship.
  • No-Objection / Deputation Letter that confirms your connection to a university or organization
  • Letter of Approval from the company providing your internship, stating the conditions of your stay and the payment
  • Evidence of qualification such as degree certificates, mark sheets, or any diploma
  • Health Insurance confirmation from your provider assuring your coverage of at least EUR30,000 throughout the Schengen territory
  • Proof of financial means such as bank statements or payment statement
  • Proof of contract and income
  • Proof of ownership and income for self-employed individuals
  • Proof of ticket reservation
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Proof of payment for the visa application fee

 

To Apply:

  1. Collate all your documents and check for other relevant documents that will help prove your ability to sustain your visit to the country.
  2. Set an appointment with the German embassy or consulate near you. You may check the details of German Embassies worldwide through this link.
  3. Pay an application fee of EUR75.
  4. Prepare for the interview on your scheduled date.
