Internship Visa in Sweden

If you are considered an EU or Nordic national, you need not to secure a visa anymore. However, should your stay be more than 90 days, you may need to register at the Swedish Tax Agency as a self-sufficient person and provide proof of funds to support your claim (more or less SEK 150,000). If you are a citizen outside of the EU, you may be required to secure a work permit.

If you are staying for more than 90 days, you may need to apply for a visitor’s residence permit. You may need to take note of the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a passport valid for at least 3 months after your Schengen visa expiration date, issued in the last ten years, with at least two empty pages
  • A comprehensive description of your visit
  • An invitation from the internship or volunteer organization you're applying in
  • Proof of funds that is enough to support your costs of stay and your roundtrip fare going home. (Sweden requires funds equivalent to 450 SEK a day for the whole duration of your trip)
  • An individual travel insurance that has coverage on medical emergency treatments, immediate medical care, or transportation costs that will allow you to go home should medical interventions be required to be administered in your home country
  • A supporting document that will reflect your intention to leave Sweden and the Schengen region on the last day before your visa expires
  • A most recent passport-size photo, taken within the past six months
  • Other supporting documents the embassy may deem necessary for your type of application

To Apply:

  • Check your country for affiliated organizations that process Schengen visas.
  • If external service providers aren’t available, you may personally submit to the Swedish Embassy in your locale. You may search for the address of your embassy through this link: Swedish Embassies.
