Housing in Taiwan

Taiwan is a highly urbanized country, and almost 80% of the population are already living in the cities. Expats and foreigners on the other hand only contribute 3% of the population. In looking for a place to rent, consider that the west coast of Taiwan is already densely populated, which makes the central and eastern region a more ideal location to look for places to rent, so long as its distance is still reasonable to your workplace.

The hunt for a place to stay can be challenging in almost all countries, but you can be thankful to numerous online housing portals that can lead you to the right home you can rent. Check out the list of portals below:

Although there are hundreds of listings you may find online, it is suggested that you consider the referral of a local friend. Some things that Taiwanese people can help you with are finding a landlord that will not overcharge you or settling in an area where the neighbors are organized and relatively nicer than other places. A tip of advice before signing your contract is that you indicate the specific condition of the house you are renting and the appliances in it. Some landlords may charge you for damages that may have already been there prior to your move in, so better check everything before transferring to your preferred home. During contract signing most landlords are not strict with documentation, but you should be prepared in handing over a copy of your passport, visa, and employment contract.
