Taiwan has already adopted a National Healthcare System even back in 1995. The division in itself is a mandatory social insurance where healthcare funds are sourced from. This has allowed the entire population to have easy and equal access to medical care. However for foreigners this may not be entirely the same. Only foreigners who will be spending four months in the country will be required to take part of this social insurance, so long as the expat holds an Alien Resident Card, otherwise the foreigner should consult his medical insurance provider in his home country if the policy extends in Taiwan.
Should your medical insurance provider fail to extend their services abroad. Don’t worry, there are a lot of international medical care insurance companies. You may want to check and consider companies such as Cigna or Allianz Care.
Also, it's generally a good advice and often a much cheaper option to check what insurance packages are available in your own country and what coverage they offer in Taiwan.
